Sundarban look like a balanced forest when it gets partially submerged by highly saline water during the high tide. Within a few hours, the low tide makes the water to recede back to the Bay of Bengal exposing the clay beds of mudflat to the air. Tidal amplitude and fluctuations of Sundarbans is around 7 meter.


The Sundarban is the true wonder of nature and largest continuous block of Mangrove Forest in the World. Sundarban is the home of some endangered species like Royal Bengal Tiger, Estuarine Crocodile, Spotted Dear, Wild Boar, Olive Ridley Turtle, and Gangetic Dolphin etc. Indian Sundarban consists of 102 deltaic islands which is a part Gangetic Delta, the world's largest delta. Sundarban is spread over 9630 sq KM. in southern part of West Bengal and hosts extremely rich diversity of aquatic and terrestrial flora and fauna. It is also thought that it could have been derived from Sundari, a tree that is abundant in the forest. The official name of this amazing forest is Sunderban National Park. Sundarban is located around 85 KM away from Kolkata.

Sundarban National Park is coming up to be one of the most popular tourist destinations in India for last few years.Tourism infrastructures have been developed enough. Forest department has made some arrangements to expose its majestic beauty to the tourists. The department has made some Watch Towers, a several feet high and around 500 meter long platform in dense forest from where tourists would get a spectacular view of Sundarban with its wild lives.The Most exciting part of Sundarban tour is Sundarban Safari- A jeep or an elephant back cannot be opted rather you will have a country motor boat or launch for jungle safari here in sundarban. It is very thrilling to sail through narrow creeks and canals of sundarban. You might have some wonderful images in your camera like Tiger swimming, Crocodiles lying on mudflat along with Sundarban's scenic beauty and great diversity of its flora and fauna. Views from watch towers in sundarban are really amazing.

3. Biosphere Reserve, declared by GOI 1989. In 2001 Sundarban got included in global network of biosphere reserves.

Little Important Information which mentioned below:
1. Sundarban is a collection of tiny islands. Some are covered with mangroves and some for human habitation.
2. There is no electricity supply from mainland of west Bengal where hotels and resorts are located. Generators and solar system are used for power supply.
Climate of sundarban from October to March are best for Sundarban Tour. Monsoons are also spectacular in sundarban.
